celebrations?

you wak out your home, go for a drive. notice those valentine hearts? going to buy one for your sweet heart? makes my eyes roll...a lit bit further another ad campaign - 'make her feel special this valentine'...samih thinks;'wonder how you make her feel the rest of the year?'..enter debenhams to browse and am assailed by a bevy of females waiting to spritz some perfume on me. politely say no thank you and walk into the next sales lady, politely shake my head in the negative only to have another perfume waved in my face. no i dont have a sweet heart who i want to impress with this perfume of yours- cant you see? not interested in buying perfume for him or for making myself feel special to get myself one either! cant you see im wearing the hijaab? i dont celebrate valentines day....hold on...but so what if im wearing the hijaab? and so what if the country that i live in is a muslim state? i mean its the time that we're building bridges and erasing cultural gaps. so everything goes! celebrating valentines day, mothers day, fathers day, christmas, new years... its all celebrated..regardless of what our religion preaches us... its all about globalistaion isnt it?

christmas time rolls around and you see huge christmas trees up with lights flickering in nearly all the malls...mothers day is celebrated, ad campagns launched in advance persuading you to buy your mom a gift..and you think oh why not? i havent done anything lately for her and this seems like a good time. ..

new years? oh well im invited to a party? so why not? no harm there either..i mean everyone seems to be doing it ..if i refuse on the basis of religion - i'll seem a bit of an extremist and i know im going to be nagged by my friends forever about it...easier to give in...

do we even pause and think...what the angels must be writing down? madam / sir gone for new years...deeds being constantly written down..you do know the Prophet PBUH DID NOT CELBRATE NEW YEARS, CHIRSTMAS, ETC ETC FORGET VALENTINES DAY...

islam is over and above such celebrations. islam commands you to do good to your parents and do good for them throughout the year! not just for a day.The Prophet PBUH did not celebrate new years. just the opposite. he ordered the muslim ummah to be better in Practice than the christians and other relsions. we dont need to follow or celebrate thier occasions to show how we muslims do actually live in harmony and peace with other religions. if we follow islam and the sunnah the Prophet pbuh preached we will automatically be reflecting how tolerant islam is of other religions. We do NOT need to celebrate christmas and thanksgiving to reflect it.

i recently heard about how in another muslim country its hard to find hotel bookings for receptions or dinners for the 14th of feb cos they are all usually booked for valentines day bashes and parties. where wine flows free and sin is unashamedly committed.if the same governments ban the celebrating of such occasions - theyre called hardliners - but if they relax their rules - they are called moderate. ever thougt about the akhirah? what this so called 'moderation' will do us when we are standing before the Almighty? where is the simplicity of our relgion lost? why do we not heed the call to guidance?

from the state to the mere civialian. we need to pause and check ourselves before we lose our good deeds in these acts of sin that may unintentionally lead us astray. MayAllah guide us all, and keep us on the path of the muttaqin. Ameen.
